Great, you came back for week three! This is an important week for cat health. Did you know the most common and dangerous aliments for cats are urinary and kidney problems, hyperthyroidism, and heart disease? These problems can often go unnoticed until they are severe because cats rarely show signs of health problems. They are great at hiding their pain, so it’s up to you, the owner, to be mindful for any behavior changes that could be a sign that something is seriously wrong with your cat. Even humans don’t always know when something is wrong until it is too late, and the same is true for your furry loved ones. Exams are recommended every 6 months for all cats, not just seniors, for that very reason.
Exams, vaccines, and even running blood work can help diagnose and treat (and possible prevent) problems before they become serious. And if you have a kitten, booster shots and monthly exams are recommended for the first 4-6 months. Liberty Veterinary Hospital has a great kitten wellness plan too, so give them a call if you have, or are thinking of getting kitten.
Let’s not forget about spaying and neutering. No hissing please. Did you know spaying and neutering can eliminate the risk of some forms of cancer? And besides preventing unwanted kittens, it makes it less likely that your cat will try to roam and escape.
